Constituent elements of an exclusive comprehensive diagnosis of ASD
The examination is carried out on five levels:
- genetics and epigenetics;
- detection of metabolic disorders;
- determination of immunological disorders;
- diagnosis of neuroinflammation;
- a study of behavioral responses.
It is based on the genetic predisposition of the patient. In turn, genetic factors lead to metabolic disorders, and those lead to immune dysregulation (infection syndrome, autoimmune syndrome, immune inflammation, allergy syndrome, and cancer syndrome).
Then, against the background of immune disorders, neuroinflammation develops, which causes brain damage and causes the clinical picture of ASD – attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, obsessive-compulsive syndrome, speech, and cognitive disorders, epilepsy and epileptic syndrome, hyperkinesias, etc.

At the initial visit, doctors evaluate the child's condition, the symptoms present, and determine further diagnostic tactics. If the patient has already undergone any tests and therapeutic procedures, we carefully study the available results and the effect of the therapy performed. Only after that we prescribe additional diagnostic procedures to identify the cause of ASD.
The costliest in the treatment of children with ASD is time. Therefore, while waiting for the results of genetic studies, which may last several months, specialists begin pathogenetic therapy aimed at eliminating metabolic disorders, treating infectious and immunological factors, eliminating the causes of neuroinflammation and systemic inflammation throughout the body.
Diagnosis usually takes only a few days or weeks. It begins with the identification of metabolic and immunologic abnormalities. At this stage, the severity of the disorders is considered, a somatic examination of the child is carried out to identify certain stigmas and suspect a genetic pathology.
Features of genetic diagnosis
Genetic pathology is different because there are many possible genetic testing options. In order to choose exactly the genetic testing needed in the previous step, the child is examined by an appropriate specialist who understands the genetic pathology and can recommend one or the other screening panel.
Development of treatment based on the results of exclusive comprehensive diagnostics
Based on the fact that the examination begins with the detection of metabolic and immunological disorders, some tests are performed quickly and over a long period of time, such as the MitoSwab or FRAT. In this case, lifestyle adjustments or treatments to address immunologic and metabolic factors are made first.
Thus, pediatricians, nutritionists, and immunologists are the first to treat patients. If there is inflammation, neurologists get involved, and if there is general inflammation, gastroenterologists or immunologists get involved.
If positive dynamics in behavioral reactions are observed, psychiatrists are not involved in the process. If the child has clearly expressed behavioral reactions, medical behavioral correction is possible.
While immunological disorders are being treated and metabolic correction is being selected, we get the results of genetic studies. And already from the genetic studies a complete diagnosis is made, and a complete correction is carried out. And only at this stage can we, to a greater or lesser extent, talk about certain prospects in the treatment of the child.

While testing is being performed, additional tests may be ordered, but during this time we are already treating the child.
